FIELD TRIP

Last Thursday, all of the gifted kids went on a field trip to the art museum in Montgomery. We had lots of fun. My favorite part was when we painted. We painted trees and a little house like artists do. We made the forward ground, middle ground, and background. It looked like an artist had painted it in real life. I love gifted! Dominique

The field trip to the art museum was great. It had lots of stuff to do. We painted, fed geese, looked at awesome pictures, went to the gift shop, ate sack lunches, and played outside. The art museum is a wonderful place to me. It inspired me to do more in life and move on to the next level. Ms.Westmoreland was nice too. The gifted program is a fantastic place to be. I loved the field trip and so would you! '' DASHIA ''

Last Thursday, I went on a field trip with Ms.Westmoreland. We went to a art museum. We painted our own picture. We fed geese and ducks. We also took pictures, too. It was great! Latravia

The field trip was so fun! I told just about everyone in my family. We went to the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts(MMFA). We saw beautiful pictures of abstract art and pictures of famous people. After we got finished looking around the museum, we painted our own pictures. It was soooooo fun.''KHALEEL''

I liked the museum arts. They were wonderful! The employees were nice and kind. We painted landscapes. The children's museum was great! We got to draw pictures. We got to see sculptures. I would like to go again. Jaela

We went to an art museum and we saw all kinds of paintings of people. We played games, took pictures, and fed ducks and geese. In the children's museum, there was a scene from a famous painting with a lady on the phone. I went up and talked on the phone so I was part of the scene. "KEUNDRA"

When we went on the field trip, we had fun playing, drawing, coloring, and painting. We saw and learned about artists, famous paintings like the lady in the blue dress standing next to the fireplace, and sculptures like the bird houses. They had race cars that followed patterns in a painting. Oscar

I think the field trip was a fun idea. We got to feed some bread to Canadian Geese. I like the sculptures made from metal. But, the best part was the gift shop. I bought an art kit and a bumper sticker! ISAIAH

The field trip was fun! We saw different kinds of fine art and I saw something cool that someone from Alabama made from mud. My favorite part in the museum was when we painted a picture. We painted the foreground, the middle ground, and the background. And I also liked feeding the ducks and geese! "TRINITY"

When we were on our field trip, we went in a museum of fine arts. We got to see masterpieces and go into the children's museum. We got to paint and when we went outside to eat lunch. And then we saved bread to feed the ducks and geese. "Kyaisha"

I went on a field trip with my gifted class. We went to the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. We went into the children's museum and we walked through a large kaleidoscope. We looked at the paintings, we made a print of a famous painting, we did computer graphics, and we tried on masks from different countries. We did our own painting and we looked in the gallery. "Malaka"

At the museum, the guide showed us some gorgeous paintings. Even when the paintings were plain, I had a fantastic time. I walked through a vine sculpture outside that only took a few weeks to build. That's unbelievable! BRIANNA

One of the paintings that we saw was a painting of a loghouse that was painted by a folk artist. He painted it with syrup so it had to be put in a case because the sweet scent would attract bees, ants, and roaches. MONTEZ

At the museum, in the children's museum I got on the computers that took pictures. I also saw landscape art. It has a foreground, middle ground, and the background. Then we went with the guide who took us through the galleries. Santanna

At the museum, I saw a painting called Sand Hogs. The people in the painting were called this because they would work 12 to 14 hours digging tunnels for subways and sewer lines nonstop. Xavier

We learned about a man from Alabama who was poor and didn't have any paint to paint with. So he had to make his own. He made it by mixing mud, water, and corn syrup together. It looked like real paint. This type of painting is called Folk Art. BRIANNA

The painting I liked the most was a lady in a blue dress. She was so pretty. Mrs. Pam said she might have had her ribs taken out because her waist was so small. Her face was painted so good that itlooked like she was real. You can tell she was rich. Myaira

The painting that I liked the most was the painting of the exploding volcano. It may sound violent but, I liked all of the bright colors in it and I liked the way that all of the colors complimented each other. Who ever did the painting was very talented. DHESTINEE

Our Topics for 2009 - 2010

Our topics this year include newspaper, entomology, and chemical changes. We will be writing a class newspaper. Entomology is the study of insects. We collected insects from outside and put them in bottles. We fed them dogfood and gave them water. We are going to make a bulletin board with insects on it. Later
this year, we are going to study chemical changes.
Trinity - Third Grade

Also this year, we are going to learn how to research, study inventions and inventors, and plan trips to different states in the United States. We are learning how to research to find information about topics. We have to find five inventors we are interested in learning about and make a booklet. We have to research to find more information about inventors.

Advisory Council

Parents:

The Advisory Council Meeting for the Gifted and Talented Education Program went well. We had good participation with grades 3 - 5 represented. Our discussions were concerning what the students will be learning this year and expectations for their efforts and behavior in all their classes. Parents made several viable suggestions for the program. We plan to have another meeting the second quarter of school. I will be letting you know the date and time. A big THANKS to all who came!
